Please give input on trouble shooting a garage door opener that has a mind of its own....?
We got out last garage opener about 4 years ago. I have a car in which you have an option to program a button on the console that will open the garage door as well. I have never had an issue, but here lately its 50/50 on if the opener on my car console will work. Many times I have to get out and open the garage because it refuses to work. Could the problem be that the opener is not getting its signal clearly for some reason? Do you think its an issue with the car button or the garage opener? (unfortunately, I dont have a standard remote opener that comes with unit to check with that) Any input is GREATLY appreciated! Thank you, Anne

- Anne check the motor part there is a antenna ( small wire) you might have to remove the cover to get to the wire. The wire is connected on one end only. Pull this wire out and let it hang down even if it's outside if the cover it's OK. this antenna is what picks up the signal from your car.
- My door opener has a learn button on the back of it, you push this and then hold down the button on the remote to get them synchronized.
- I think I would pick up a second opener for the garage door. They are not hard to find or very expensive. Just look up the brand of your opener in the yellow pages, copy down the model # and call the nearest distributor. The opener they provide will probably have to be programed, but it will come with instructions to do so. Once you have a stand alone opener, it'll be easy to check it against the one in your car and if the problem is with the car opener, you will already have a replacement.
