Garage Guide

Garage doors.?

My garage has an old and draughty up and over door and during the recent storms has let in rain and loads of trash. What would be a good replacement, are roller doors draught proof and secure? There are lots of websites that will sell you stuff but very little unbiased info.

  1. Roller doors are much better and safer. You can keep any garage door from letting rain in if you put a rubber seal around it. They have them at any home inprovement store.
  2. I prefer the up and down doors. Just go to you local hardware store and tell that you are looking for a replacement garage door sweep bushing. If he is not aware of exact what you are looking for as I am not sure what the exact name of the part is, tell him that you are looking for the rubber piece that goes on the bottom of the door that "molds" to the floor.
  3. Hi, I sympathise. My "up & over" double thing allows leaves ankle deep to blow in, and is getting sticky on its' runners. I got a bit of promotional info via the web on this, most of it over-priced nonesense. Then, Lo & Behold, a nice bunch of folks at a very local garage door company, in Baldock, Herts, had a peep, and it is now scheduled to have a motor screw-drive thing & wind excluders fitted, without buying a new door, for a small fraction of previous quotes. Oh, and it comes with a button in the car that winds it up & down, and locks up. So, in general, I would suggest getting a local company to fit the necessary, and ignore some company in the nether regions that you have never heard of, & with daft prices. The job will be under half the cost on this "Oh, we will fit a new door, with this that & t'other." via the web .Twits. All the best with it ! Bob.
  4. I had a roller shutter door fitted over three years ago ,and it is safe it keep out the rain and wind and i open the garage door from the inside of the car or inside the house with a re moat control but it cost me £1.500 .
