What do I need to check for or do to convert attic above garage for storage?
I have a roof pitch that goes from about 3' to 20' above my garage, which allows me to stand erect in most of the area. I want to convert this to an attic storage. I have 2 x 8 ceiling joists running the width of a double garage. I would like to be able to put a lot of weight up there without having to worry about it. Would a ceiling support running down the middle of the garage with posts at each end be enough?

- if you run a beam under th joist to support them depending on the length of the beam you may need to support it in three place one at both ends and one in the middle.are the joist 16 inch centers?if so that would be great if 24 inch centers you will have to add one every 12 inches.use 5/8 plywood for sheathing tonge and groove would be best.
- Also, try reinforcing all joints.
