Garage Guide

Equipment in my garage. Should I be worried about the temperature dropping below freezing?

Here on Long Island, NY, I'm concerned about equipment stored in my garage- compressor, pressure washer and mosquito magnet. It's my first year here, should I worry about the temperature in my garage dropping below freezing? I don't think the one car garage is insulated. I just installed a dedicated 20 amp circuit to the garage. It is attached to my house, but only has an exterior entrance. It's impractical to bring this equipment into the basement. Any advice?

  1. What you have to worry about is having water in any of these things in the freezing temperature. You should be able to drain enough of the water out of your compressor that it is not an issue. Pressure washer could be a more difficult situation, could try adding some antifreeze to it to keep from freezing. Ask your neighbors what they do.
  2. egads no.... open all lines making sure they can expand if they freeze...no antifreeze is needed, I put my garden hoses in mine allwinter withwater in them.,. never had one crack yet...(Live in CT)
