How do you build shelves for a garage?
I am currently looking for a guide to building garage shelving units. Not looking for anything too complex, just something I will be able to store boxes and so forth on. Something I can anchor to the wall but does not need to be anchored to the ceiling or floor. Any help is greatly appreciated.

- No offense meant but Home Depot and Lowes, sell a great shelving set in 2 depths. It's PVC, often gray or black, 5 shelves stack at about 18 inches apart, 4 ft. wide, and 18 or 24 deep. I've purchased a dozen, and they are very satisfactory. I did built in's initially, and for the cost, the labor, the time, and eventually the nastiness of them in a garage, I'm glad I switched. Certainly you can build your own, even using 2 x 4's and mdf ripped to width and depth you prefer, using cleats to hold the shelves, and a brace across the back to secure to studs. I'd still go with any pre-made, and have never had an issue with the PVC, even NOT anchored. Plus I can empty them, haul them to the drive, hose them down, dismantle and move them, change the shelf heights by removing, make two units from 1, etc. Steven Wolf Just my two "sense"
- I got cabinet bases at a Habitat for Humanity Restore ($25 each) and used them as a sturdy base then used 1" x 12" x 8' pine and attached it to the sides of the cabinets. Cut a piece of 1 x12 to fit across the top, then cut your shelves and attach. It your putting lots of weight on them, use leftover trim strips or 1 x 1 attached to the sides for extra support. The cabinet bases worked great and had doors on them for a neater appearance.
