Garage doors.? My garage has an old and draughty up and over door and during the recent storms has let in rain and loads of trash. What would be a good replacement, are roller doors draught proof and secure? There are lots of websites that will sell you stuff but very little unbiased info.
What brand and model of garage doors do you have and how well does it function? Are you familiar with Wayne Dalton, CHI, or Amarr brand of garage doors? We are shopping for a new door or even new panels.
Where can I find resources to help me build "carriage house" garage doors for my new garage? My wife and I just bought a house that has a very old two-car garage with the old style, carriage house doors, like a barn. The doors aren't in great shape, and are not secure. I looked into the cost of replacing them with new doors and, yikes! it is >$1,000 for each set of doors. I would like to build new doors with locks, but don't even know how to get started. Are there any resources around that I can consult to guide me through this very exciting project?
Should front door be painted same colour as garage doors? Should I paint my front door the same colour as my garage doors? I live in an attached bungalow with the garage doors facing the street. However, my front door is on the side of the house which you don't actually see until you go up the side walk. What colors are cool now? The top brickwork is a light red and the bottom half is a light to medium grey stone. The siding is a light grey.

Are brown garage doors a fashion trend ? The South Florida neighbourhood I live in is undergoing a curious makeover...every week, 2 or 3 home owners are painting their garage doors brown. I have never seen so many people copy each other like this. Does anyone know why brown is suddenly in for garage doors ? Building a house, should I go for 1 big garage door or 2 single doors?? I know there are advantages of having 1 door as far as room is concerned but I like the look of the 2 single doors, especially since the garage is facing the front of the house.
Should I get insulated garage doors? I am builiding a new house w/ a 3 car garage (it is attached to the side of the house). The only side of the garage that is insulated is the back wall which is the wall shared with the house. Would spending the extra money on the insulated garage doors a waste of money since the other 2 walls are not insulated? (I live in Minnesota) The garage isn't heated.
Which is best? Paint garage doors to match house or contrasting color? I want the overall look of the house to be welcoming and "homey". Do I make the living space the focus by painting the garage doors a darker/muted color, separating the two areas and making the garage "retreat" ... or do I hide the garage by painting it the same color as the house, blending it into the living space?

My garage doors won't open, how can I fix that? I recently unplugged both garage door openers a couple of days ago and after I plugged them back in they won't open electronically. landlord say screens and garage doors are a luxury and the house has none? the garage doors need to be replaced, one door snapped and came down on my grandson hitting him across his kidneys. but the landlord just came and put small pad locks on the outside of the doors and handed me the keys. I have even asked for them to use my deposit to put screens in or towards new garage doors. but the only thing I recieved was a registored letter telling me my rent has went up 150.00 more. what would you do if you were me. What wood is commonly used in the manufacture of lifting panel garage doors in the northeast? Three panels are good as new. The bottom panel is rotting and needs to be replaced. The manufacturer will not sell me a replacement claiming that I must buy a whole new door. I'm capable of building a matching replacement. Cedar would be one choice, but I'm wondering what other rot resistant woods might do as well or better.

Garage doors - I am thinking of installing an electrically operated roller shutter to my new garage.? Am I being stupid? Although insulated and so should save heat loss & therefore energy it will use electricity in its operation. Will this be a liability in future years with inevitable electric price increases and possible breakdowns. I parked my commercial van on the sidewalk on a company with 2 big garage doors and got a ticket? A ticket for parking on the sidewalk! I parked in front of the large garage doors and went inside to open the doors to park inside. when i came out 2 New York police officers were writing me a summons for parking on the sidewalk.
